Technological innovation and structural change for economic development in China as an emerging market

Abstract As an emerging and transforming market, China has emphasized the key role of technological innovation industrial structural change in economic growth. Using a nonlinear econometric model provincial data from 2000 to 2014, this study investigates direction for driving China's From national perspective, inverted U-shaped relationship exists between progress growth, revealing need shift approach imitation innovation. Once turning point is reached, upgrading stimulates Regional heterogeneity apparent regional regression. Both energy-saving environmental conservation technologies positively contribute eastern central regions’ economies, while only technology accelerates western region's development. On adjustment, areas should utilize industrialization achieve sustainable development, whereas regions do not benefit change.
